Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary, created by Congress in 1992, protects humpback whales off the shores of Maui, Kauaʻi, Oʻahu, and Hawaiʻi Island. The Sanctuary offers volunteer opportunities around the state with the largest concentration of volunteers located on Maui.
