Nāpuʻu Conservation Project

Puʻuwaʻawaʻa State Forest Reserve
Meet at Pu’uwa’awa’a Forest Reserve (directions will be provided once we confirm your participation). The week's first planting was a success, involving over 250 Koa trees.
Be sure to bring rain gear, as the area is at about 4,000 foot elevation. Wear sturdy shoes, long pants, hat, and sun protection. Also bring a water bottle, snacks, and lunch.

Space will be limited due to limited available 4WD vehicles. If you are coming from Hilo, and would like to carpool, please note that in the RSVP. If you have your own 4WD vehicle you'd like to bring, please let us know (we will also share how to decontaminate your vehicle to prevent the spread of pests).
Join us to learn more above native dryland forest species and to help restore an area that was once known for its abundant ʻAiea (Nothocestrum breviflorum) and akoko (Euphorbia olowaluwana) trees. This unique mixed-mesic forest is home to a diverse group of rare native species, many of which are endangered. Join us to help plant and to learn more about native plant species and the rich ecological and cultural history of this special place.
