Maui Nui Makai Network is a non-profit organization working to restore abundance and sustainability to

marine resources in its member sites across Maui Nui, and seeks to expand to additional communities. The

Network works to strengthen the collaborative, organizational, and technical capacities of local community

groups through peer learning and support. By sharing knowledge, skills, resources and information throughout

the Network, local community groups can contribute substantially to sustainable resource management and

conservation. The Chairmanship rotates among the groups annually. The 2016-2017 Chair is Maunalei

Ahupuaʻa CMMA.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

 Passionate about Hawaii’s people, culture, communities, and oceans

 Competence in Hawaii’s culture and commitment to Hawaii

 Experience with organizing people and events

 Experience in facilitation and leadership

 Demonstrated effective written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills.

 Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including local communities, to build support for cultural and

conservation initiatives

 Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 1 year related experience, and/or 5 years of equivalent combination of

education and experience

 Experience developing, tracking and managing multiple complex projects with others under tight deadlines with

demonstrated attention to detail and organizational process

 Experience developing communications materials and projects, and ability to develop and present compelling

messages to a variety of audiences in person, in print, and via social media

 Experience with office productivity software, graphic design software, and navigating the internet

 Demonstrated sensitivity of confidential information

ESSENTIAL TASKS FOR THE YEAR:

The Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing a variety of projects in coordination with Network

leaders, including:

 Coordinate logistics to convene the Network and its partners twice yearly for priority learning opportunities

 Coordinate monthly call with Network members

 Effectively apply for grants and submit required grant reports for the Network’s basic operational budget and

strategic projects

 Maintain records of, and assist with the development of documents and agreements necessary to the sustainable

functioning of the Network, such as standard operating procedures

 Assist Network leadership to carry out fiscal responsibilities and maintain communication with the Network’s

accountant, including tracking Network budgets and expenditures

 Coordinate the development of a Network website

 Coordinate an international peer-to- peer learning exchange

 Update Network social media outlets like Facebook

 Create and maintain a password protected Google Docs platform for all Network documents, presentations and

materials

 Maintain/update Network presentation, video, brochure

 Assist in coordinating Network member involvement input on the Network Guidebook

 Assist in development and organization of the train-the- trainers series for the first Network cohort

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:

 Ability to travel and work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings

 Ability to work under stress during peak workload periods

 Work requires only minor physical exertion and/or physical strain

Salary and benefits commensurate with experience.

This position is currently funded part-time for one year. Location TBD.
