Part-time Native Plant Restoration and Farm Assistant with Kupu Aina Corps

August 7,  2023 – July 27, 2024

Twenty hours per week (3 days)  

$18 per hour, plus benefits, including health insurance

Job Description
The Kupu Aina Corps Participant role is an entry- to intermediate-level position for individuals who want to build a career in the green jobs sector and who are interested in exploring environmental and agricultural careers through hands-on experience.

The position at Kalahaku Farm is to assist with native plant restoration and agroforestry efforts, including:

  • Eradicate invasive species (herbaceous weed control and brush management) on slopes, stream banks, and in ponds
  • Plant and maintain native groundcovers, trees, shrubs, and vegetative barriers as well as fruit trees and ornamentals
  • Propagate plants for out-planting
  • Assist with trail making and trail maintenance
  • Clear debris from stream and ponds as needed
  • Fertilize trees, shrubs, groundcovers, and vegetative barriers
  • Use organic pest control products and methods as needed
  • Weed whack adjacent areas, trails, etc.
  • Assist with miscellaneous farm tasks

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

  • Experience using typical outdoor tools
  • Quick learner
  • Physical stamina
  • Able to work independently
  • Attentive and able to communicate clearly
  • Able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Has own transportation (Location is not on the bus line)
  • No drugs, alcohol, or smoking on the premises

 Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity with native plants
  • Experience with invasive species removal
  • Experience with planting 
  • Experience with general farm labor
  • College degree in a relevant field

Preference given for applicants who have knowledge of and experience with Native Hawaiian plants
