Regular, Full Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU), Ko‘olau Mountains Watershed Partnership (KMWP), University of Hawai‘i, located in Pearl City, Oahu, Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY: $3,900/Mon.
DUTIES: Responsible for the development, maintenance, and use of spatial and reference data for implementation of the Ko‘olau Mountains Watershed Partnership management plan. Maintains Microsoft Access database, uploads Global Positioning System (GPS) data, assists in data analysis, and final reports. Inputs and summarizes field data for incorporation into Geographic Information System (GIS). Uses GIS to produce map products to evaluate and facilitate fieldwork. Provides computer technical support for field crew. Serves as Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS) (drone) operator for the project. Drives project vehicle to access field sites. Maintains watershed partnership equipment, facilities, and communication systems. Participates in field operations including mechanical and chemical removal of invasive alien plant species in remote natural areas. May participate in mechanical and chemical removal of invasive alien plant species in natural areas.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION |
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Geography, Computer Science, Natural Sciences or related field. |

EXPERIENCE |
One to three (1-3) years of experience with geographic information systems or database applications. Demonstrated ability to summarize, analyze, and develop written reports on results of research. Experience working with natural resource management in Hawai‘i or elsewhere. Experience needs to be well-documented and acquired under the employment of an academic institution, governmental agency, private company, or non-profit organization in the appropriate field and can include paid internships. |

KNOWLEDGE |
Knowledge of forest ecology and threats from alien plant and animal invasions. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Access, Trimble/Garmin GPS systems and ArcGIS software. Must have working knowledge of methodology for transect monitoring, photo points, ground and aerial scouts/surveys, data collection, and database use. |

ABILITIES & SKILLS |
Good organizational, communication, and computer skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing. Ability to read maps and aerial photographs. Proficient in the use of word-processing and spreadsheet programs (MS Office, Google Suite, etc.). Must be able use ArcGIS or other GIS programs for data entry, analysis, and map preparation. Must possess a valid driver’s license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver’s insurance equivalent to Hawai‘i’s No-Fault Driver’s Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to pass a criminal background check. Must be able to complete basic helicopter safety course (A100) within three (3) months from date of hire. Must possess the American Red Cross Certification or equivalent training in First Aid/CPR (or be able to obtain the certificate following the training provided within three (3) months from date of hire and maintain throughout duration of employment). Must possess FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot certificate (or be able to obtain the certificate within twelve (12) months from date of hire and maintain throughout duration of employment). Must complete the online Hazard Communication training immediately after hire or no later than employee’s initial exposure to hazardous chemicals. |

PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS |
Ability to hike and camp in remote areas and steep rugged terrain under inclement weather conditions, for up to three (3) nights. Ability to backpack and lift and carry up to forty (40) pounds unassisted. |

POLICY/REGULATORY REQUIREMENT |

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:

Familiar with biological principles and resources pertaining to Hawaiian ecosystems and alien/invasive species. Experience working in an office to support and promote biological field activities. Ability to update software and provide office Information Technology (IT) support. Previous experience monitoring and mapping vegetation and stream resources in the Ko‛olau Mountains or similar environments. |
