A Crew Leader will act as a representative of Pono Pacific, with a primary focus of maintaining strong team morale and coordinating safe and efficient schedules. He/She should possess a high degree of leadership and organizational skills. A Crew Leader will act in the best interest of the company, act in the best interest of the employees, and act in a fair, safe, effective, and legal manner.
Responsibilities include frequent communication with Project Managers, overseeing daily tasks of the crew, coordinating transportation of crews between project sites, and maintaining company vehicles and equipment. In addition to working alongside field technicians, a Crew Leader is required to follow all guidelines set forth and lead by example to crew members. A Crew Leader will be responsible for managing any personnel issues that arise and require immediate attention, as well as discussing anything requiring formal disciplinary or congratulatory actions with Project Managers. He/She will review crew timesheets on a regular basis and work with individual crew members to resolve any discrepancies, before giving consent to Project Managers for approval.
A Crew Leader will possess a current state of Hawaiʻi pesticide license (Core and Category 2). A Crew Leader should be familiar with and be willing to gain further expertise in PPE safety, spraying herbicide, various GPS/GIS systems, reading topographic maps, navigating via compass, recording accurate data, and assist Project Managers with reporting requirements. He/She will be in charge of maintaining project status charts, assist Project Managers in reporting activities, and have their Altres Supervisory Training Certificate (6 courses). A Crew Leader should align him/herself closely with a Project Manager as a mentor and strive to manage multiple projects.
Specific Position Goals/Expectations: • Further expand environmental vocabulary and familiarity with native flora and fauna of Hawaiʻi • Working knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Office • Assist Project Managers in building new crew leaders and growing crew members abilities • Assist in the creation of training and safety programs • Support the company in improving and promoting communication pathways, such as newsletters and social media
