Pacific International Center for High Technology Research. Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Pacific International Center for High Technology Research (PICHTR), performing project tasks on land controlled by U.S. Army Garrison, Hawai‘i (USAG-HI) at Pohakuloa Training Area (PTA), located on the Island of Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $3,467-$4,000/Mon.
DUTIES: Provides day-to-day support in implementing the Island of Hawai‘i Cultural Resource Program Scope of Work (SOW). Serves as PTA Cultural Resources Technician and performs assigned tasks to implement programs developed by the Cultural Resources Program Manager U.S. Army Hawai‘i (USARHAW). Works to support all fieldwork, including accompanying cultural accesses, driving to historical/archaeological sites to do periodic monitoring, pedestrian survey, data collection and input, and coordination of assigned tasks/projects. Becomes familiar with installation plans, undertakings, and cultural studies and inventories. Works in areas with Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) with professional Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) supervision.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Archaeology, Anthropology, Cultural Resources Management, or related field. EXPERIENCE: Field school or at least three (3) months of experience in archaeological fieldwork, ethnography, or similar experience. ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Knowledge of cultural history, preferably of Hawaiian or Pacific Islands. Ability to use compass, maps, and GPS. Computer literate in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Additional software knowledge includes familiarity with ArcGIS software or similar. Must possess a valid driver’s license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver’s insurance equivalent to Hawai‘i’s No-Fault Driver’s Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to pass a DoD security check for employment as an Army contractor. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to unclassified information. Must possess the American Red Cross Certification in First Aid/CPR (or be able to obtain the certificate following the training provided within three (3) months from date of hire) and maintain throughout duration of employment. Must complete online forty (40) hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training within two (2) weeks from date of hire or may be subject to termination. Must complete the online Hazard Communication training immediately after hire or no later than employee’s initial exposure to hazardous chemicals. Must complete UXO training within six (6) months from date of hire as job duties will require work in UXO areas. Must be able to complete basic helicopter safety course within twelve (12) months from date of hire. Must complete confined spaces training within three (3) weeks from date of hire and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Must complete 4-wheel drive and winch training within twelve (12) months from date of hire. PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: Works under strenuous and extreme outdoor conditions. Able to hike up to ten (10) miles per day with backpack weighing up to forty (40) pounds unassisted, and camp in remote and rugged areas for periods of several days. Backpacking field trips of several hours are commonly required over rough terrain at elevations of 5,000 to 8,000 feet. SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Education and experience in the cultural and archaeological setting specific to Army lands on Hawai‘i islands. Experience in Hawai‘i or Pacific Islands archaeology. Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and GPS, in addition to advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Access database management. Experience performing a variety of cultural resources program tasks, particularly in a governmental agency setting.
