Our Hospital Volunteer Program offers the unique opportunity to help with the day-to-day tasks of operating the wildlife hospital and the chance to help assist staff with animal care treatments and feedings. Most of your work will be cleaning and keeping up with aviary and pool maintenance but staff will also seek your assistance with animal care treatments and procedures as needed and help track & develop your skills as wildlife rehabilitators


Hospital Volunteer Shifts:

  • Volunteers must commit to one 4-hour shift per week: either 9-1 or 1-5


Hospital Volunteer Tasks:

  • Cleaning (dishes, laundry, sweep/mop, enclosure cleaning/disinfecting)
  • Feeding (prepare patient diets, and fish slurry for tube-feeding w/ staff)
  • Aviary & Pool Maintenance
  • Animal Care – staff may have you assist with animal care once primary volunteer duties are complete and as needed



  • Complete a Volunteer Application (off our website or in person) and then we will contact you to schedule a 1 hour Hospital Volunteer Orientation
  • Orientation will consist of:
    • Hospital tour: introduction to clinic and rehabilitation facility
    • Basic safety training for facility, cleaning and animal handling
    • Training for general volunteer tasks listed above
    • Review and sign agreement with State/Federal and HWC guidelines
    • Schedule your weekly shift
