Become part of Hawaii’s conservation story

May 3rd is the first ever National Wildfire Preparedness Day!  Communities from across the nation are rallying to hold events to help raise wildfire awareness, promote collaboration and bring neighbors together to work on projects that protect homes, neighborhoods and entire communities.  Join us at the Waikoloa Dryland Wildfire Safety Park, or organize an action event in your community!

Hawaii Wildfire Management Organization (HWMO) is organizing a day of fire preparedness fun and festivities at the Waikoloa Dryland Wildfire Safety Park in Waikoloa Village from 9 am to 3 pm on Melia Street. There will be a volunteer work session in the morning planting and maintaining native plants, a firefighter meet & greet, new informational signs installation on how to harden one’s home, student-led garden tours, and a keiki "Prevent Fires" road sign-making corner.  In the afternoon, we will be hosting wildfire preparedness workshops and guest speakers, a neighborhood Firewise field tour, a keiki activity station, and possibly Smokey Bear!  All ages are welcome and the event is FREE!

Each year our Hawai‘i Fire Department responds to approximately 150 wildland fires.  The best defense against a wildfire is prevention and preparation.  Preparing your property with the lessons provided at this event will assist your fire department with protecting your property. Please join us in celebrating this event with our partners against wildfire.  I hope to see you there,” said Darren Rosario, Hawai‘i Fire Department’s Fire Chief.
