Become part of Hawaii’s conservation story

Take action and lend a helping hand to our planet during the Makai Fest Kailua clean up. Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated, a reusable or mesh bag for trash collecting and slather on some REEF SAFE sunscreen.

CHECK-IN: 9:00-10:45 a.m. at Tap & Barrel by Lanikai Brewing Company located at 167 Hamakua Drive.

Various non-profits and conservation groups will be co-hosting the event and will have info booths at check-in to learn more about various efforts to protect Kailua and the environment. Join new groups, make new friends, and borrow supplies for the day!

Groups hosting the event include:

* Treehouse Co-Working
* Lanikai Brewing Company
* Hawaii Ocean Ambassadors
* Kailua Neighborhood Board
* Seed World
* 808Cleanups
* Ocean Defenders
* Hui O Ko’olaupoko
* ...and many more!

We will maintain one large map of Kailua at check-in where volunteers can denote by highlighter which areas of Kailua they intend to clean. As the day goes on we encourage that volunteers spead out and clean Kailua to Castles Beach, Lanikai Beach, the Pillbox Trail, the Kawanui Marsh (from shore), perform an underwater cleanup near the boat ramp to remove derelict fishing gear, and clean our various Parks.As more and more volunteers pour in the map will fill-in and by the end of the day we hope to have cleaned AS MUCH OF KAILUA AS POSSIBLE in an ALL-OUT EFFORT to show gratitude and love for the place we all are lucky enough to call home!

Grain bags and buckets for collecting waste will be provided by Lanikai Brewing, but if you have your own supplies we encourage you to bring them!

AFTER PARTY: At 4:00 p.m., after the clean up, volunteers are encouraged to head back over to Lanikai Brew Co. Tap + Barrel for a cold one and to mingle more with fellow Makai Fest supporters! The brewery is kid friendly and is bring your own food.

We hope you will join us for one of the biggest and most ambitious cleanup events in recent memory!

Together we can forge new connections, clean our community, and raise awareness of the various environmental challenges facing our community, Hawaii, and the world.

See you on World Oceans Day on June 8th!!!
