Coral Bleaching is caused by higher than normal water temperatures. Many people have asked me, what can we do to help now as it is caused by rising ocean temperatures? It is true, in the short term there is nothing we can do to control rising ocean temperatures and even in the long term it is a complex problem to solve. However, there are other factors that contribute to the resilience of coral reefs and their ability to recover from bleaching events, these other stressors are something we can help reduce.
This Thursday October 1st from 6pm to 8pm we will be giving an Eyes of the Reef training to discuss some of the things we can do to help. This training will be held at the Koloa Library's conference room.
