Hakipu'u ahupua'a, Kualoa Ranch, RSVP for meeting location
Hakipu'u Stream Restoration: This project began as a two year restoration & grant partnership between Kualoa Ranch and Hui o Koʻolaupoko in 2012 and 2013. Although the grant period has ended, maintenance and continued outplanting of the project is critical to its success. The project involves the removal of invasive plant species along the stream corridor, replanting with native species and installation of ungulate enclosure fencing to protect mauka spring areas. The goals of the project include reducing sediment entering Hakipuʻu Stream and Kāneʻohe Bay and increasing habitat for native aquatic species such as ʻōpae kalaʻole and ʻoʻopu.
Volunteers will be involved in clearing invasive plant species from the semi-remote mauka spring and stream area using handsaws and hand pulling small weeds as well as planting native species and maintaining a small lo'i within the project.
PLEASE RSVP for a Google map of the meeting location.
Hakipu'u work days for 2015 will be held on the 4th Saturday of each month:
Participants under age 16 must have adult supervision. Participants under the age of 18, attending without their parent or legal guardian must bring the signed waiver.
Our community work days and volunteer events happen rain or shine! In the rare event that we would need to cancel a workday due to unsafe weather conditions, we will update our Facebook page for event status no later than one hour prior to scheduled start.
Feel free to call or e-mail me if you have any additional questions. We offer a variety of events each month.
