Regular, Part-Time (50% FTE), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Center on Disability Studies, project Literacy through Digital Media (LDM) K-3, located at the University of Hawai‘i Manoa campus in Honolulu, Hawai‘i.  Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. 

MINIMUM HOURLY RATE:  $12.08/Hr. 

DUTIES:  Develops garden curriculum lessons that address science, health & nutrition, and social studies standards for grades K-3. Teaches hands-on garden classes at Blanche Pope Elementary, and co-instructs digital media skills at three (3) pilot schools.  Creates and implements events and activities at Pope Elementary School that engages the families of the students and community. Acts as a resource and support for teachers as they implement their own lessons in the outdoor classroom, and models skills that teachers need to feel comfortable using the garden. 

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING:  High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.  EXPERIENCE:  Two to four (2-4) years of experience teaching Hawaiian culture and values through hands-on garden curriculum.  ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS:  Knowledge of community building, collaboration and expertise in event and activity planning and execution. Knowledge of Native Hawaiian culture, plants and horticulture. Knowledge of curriculum development in gardening.  Ability to teach local students in grades K-3 and K4-6. Ability to tailor instruction to accommodate all comprehension levels. Ability to teach students in K-6 basic digital media skills on iPads, Chrome Books and MacBook’s. Ability to work well with others and as a part of a team. Must possess a valid driver’s license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver’s insurance equivalent to Hawai‘i's No-Fault Driver’s Insurance) and maintain throughout duration of employment. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check.  PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Must be able to perform all physical demands of gardening, to include lifting, shoveling, planting and pruning. POLICY AND/OR REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:  As a condition of employment, employee will be subject to all applicable RCUH policies and procedures and, as applicable, subject to University of Hawai‘i's and/or business entity's policies and procedures.  Violation of RCUH's, UH's, or business entity's policies and/or procedures or applicable State or Federal laws and/or regulations may lead to disciplinary action (including, but not limited to possible termination of employment, personal fines, civil and/or criminal penalties, etc.). 

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:  Some college-level course work or vocational training. Strong organizational skills.  Ability to work in large community gatherings and events.  Ability to gather volunteer support for events.
