Limahuli Garden and Preserve
This part-time position will be working in a team which is responsible for caring for the needs of Limahuli Garden and Preserve in the context of the ahupua`a of Hā`ena. This position is focused primarily in the Garden proper working specifically on caring for the cultural sites, and cultivated plants; with a strong focus on grounds and facilities maintenance.
Duties include maintaining cultural sites such as lo`i kalo and hale kahiko, rock wall construction, maintaining the health of cultivated plants, irrigation, planting, invasive species removal & control, grass cutting, facilities and equipment maintenance, and other duties to maintain the Garden’s aesthetics, facilities and collections using the best of cultural knowledge and modern science.
Must have at least 2 years experience in mālama `āina activities; and/or horticulture or grounds maintenance with hands-on experience operating a weed eater, blower and chainsaw. Previous hands-on experience in any of the following considered a plus: growing native & culturally significant Hawaiian plants, kalo farming, dry-stack masonry, tree trimming, heavy equipment operation, Integrated Pest Management, carpentry, and painting.
