Position/Title: Sustainable Seafood Coordinator
Position Status: Part-Time or Full-Time, Exempt

Local Iʻa, LLC
Local Iʻa LLC is a community supported fishery (CSF) enterprise, established in 2014. Local I‘a sources and distributes sustainable, local seafood to customers across Oʻahu. The mission of Local Iʻa is to increase access to, and consumption of, locally sourced seafood while improving profitability for producers, and sustainability in our local fisheries. Local I‘a CSF takes a quadruple-bottom line approach, seeking to create positive environmental, social, economic, and cultural changes in our market.
Position Summary
The Supply Coordinator works closely with Local Iʻa managing members (owners) to coordinate, implement and manage product sourcing, processing, and delivery of Local I‘a’s seafood products.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Develop relationships with pono fishers and sustainable aquaculture operations for a range of species and products, and source seafood from these individuals and operations for CSF members, restaurant, and retail customers.
• Serve as primary liaison between fishers, seafood producers and other supplier
• Negotiate prices and potentially create contracts for seafood supply
• Create “Blue Hook” fisher profiles for uploading to Local I‘a website and traceability system (This Fish technology).
• Work with sales and marketing team to determine needed volume of seafood on a weekly basis.
• Manage supplier requirements including sustainability assurances, product quality, and seasonable price negotiations.
• Develop information on Local I‘a products for customers, including profiles of fish species, seasonality of seafood availability, fishing locations, and consumer locations.
• Expand Local I‘a’s current species supply list to include a broader range of specialty seafoods.
Secondary responsibilities:
• Assist with the development content for weekly customer outreach material (e.g. website, social media, and printed leaflets/recipes).
• Responsible for planning and coordination of logistics (e.g. seafood delivery, transport, processing).
• Serve as primary point of contact for CSF pick-up/drop-off locations.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
• Professional or long term personal experience in the local food or fishing industry;
• Knowledge of local seafood, including species, seafood processing and preparation methods;
• Knowledge and familiarity with Hawaiʻi marine fisheries, harvesting practices, and marine fisheries management practices;
• Strong inter-personal skills and demonstrated ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with a diverse range of partners and stakeholders;
• Basic knowledge of seafood industry and seafood supply chain;
• Ability to work hard and still have fun;
• Valid Hawaii Drivers License.
Desired Skills, Knowledge and Qualities
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, marketing, marine science, or related discipline;
• Advanced knowledge of local seafood, including species, seafood processing and preparation methods;
• Advanced knowledge of Hawaiʻi marine fisheries, harvesting practices, and marine fisheries management practices;
• Understanding of conservation issues and interest in mission of Local I‘a;
• Understanding of basic food safety practices and protocols.
Compensation:
Rate of pay is $15-20/hr, commensurate with qualifications. Number of hours worked per week may vary depending on volume and seafood type.
