Position Purpose Coqui-Free Waimea is a volunteer community group whose mission is to control the coqui frog population in Waimea. We do this by engaging volunteers and community members; we conduct surveys of neighborhoods for frogs, catch frogs, and spray areas with coqui infestations with citric acid solution. Position Requirements 1) Scout coqui locations in Waimea, based on historical presence, as well as reports to CFW Hotline. Record date, time, location and estimates of coqui population. (This will occur in a personal vehicle, with no reimbursement for fuel or mileage.) 2) Coordinate neighborhood coqui control efforts based on reported/scouted locations and support from volunteers. This involves • answering all CFW hotline calls and emailed reports within 24 hours • keeping records of all calls/reports and follow-up to those calls/reports • coordinating neighborhood volunteers and CFW field technician to respond to frog reports • walking neighborhoods and talking to residents to garner support and educate • work with CFW outreach volunteers to set up and run volunteer tables and events • follow-up with volunteers and CFW field technician after control efforts • communicating with volunteer list via MailChimp emails on a regular basis 3) Implement coqui control efforts. This involves working with volunteers to: • mix citric acid in appropriate sized sprayers • work with community volunteers to locate and eliminate frogs through capture and spraying • teach volunteers how to control frogs, and oversee safe use of equipment • share results with CFW Steering Committee and others 4) Recruit and communicate with community volunteers. This happens during coqui control efforts, scouting missions, by attending community events, through personal contacts, Facebook page, CFW website, blog, newspaper articles, etc. This will be facilitated with KWP Coordinator and Steering Committee. Collect volunteer contact information and distribute T-shirts. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent Experience: 1-2 years in conservation field work, environmental education and/or outreach Ability/Knowledge/Skills: Familiar working with pesticides. Must possess a valid driver’s license and have experience operating a 4-wheel drive vehicle with manual transmission. Secondary Qualifications: Experience capturing and spraying coqui frogs. Experience working with volunteers. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Working Conditions · Work is performed in outdoor and community settings, mostly at night. · See additional requirements above.
