Native Plant Restoration Specialist/Farmer (Part-Time)

Assist with and manage native plant restoration and agricultural projects
One - three days per week with flexible scheduling. Hourly rate based on experience, knowledge, and skills.  

Responsibilities 

  • Eradicate invasive species (herbaceous weed control and brush management) on slopes, stream banks, and in ponds
  • Create and maintain trails on slopes
  • Plant and maintain native groundcovers, trees, shrubs, and vegetative barriers as well as fruit trees, kalo, and ornamentals
  • Propagate plants
  • Develop and maintain soil health
  • Fertilize trees, shrubs, groundcovers, and vegetative barriers
  • Use organic pest control products and methods
  • Prune shrubs and trees as needed 

Desired knowledge and experience

  • Soil health and supplementation
  • Use of organic fertilizers and pest control
  • Propagation, planting, pruning 
  • Familiarity with Native Hawaiian plant species 
  • Tropical agriculture and local plants, trees, and crops

Requirements for successful applicant

  • Able to work independently and also able to work well with others
  • Attentive and able to communicate clearly
  • Able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Must have own transportation (site is not on the bus line)
  • No drugs, alcohol, or smoking on the premises

Preference for applicants who have knowledge of and experience with  Native Hawaiian plants  ​
