About Smart Trees Pacific:
Smart Trees Pacific is a non-profit urban forestry organization serving Hawaiʻi & the Pacific
Region. Hawaii’s tropical urban trees are a vital resource and asset for which we work to raise
awareness & support for our urban forests. With a team of qualified arborists, project managers,
program administrators, public education experts, and community leaders, STP possesses the
collective education, training, and experience that provides us with the demonstrable knowledge,
skills, and practical ability in Urban Forestry. We are recognized as leaders in developing

provide solutions for the natural and human environment.
Position Summary:
This position will lead and implement components of the urban and community forestry
program. This is a remote work contract with flexible hours. The candidate is required to live on
Oʻahu. Everyone on the Smart Trees Pacific consultant team is expected to be able to work both
independently and collaboratively to achieve shared goals. Compensation is competitive and
commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Duties and Responsibilities
● Oversees the Citizen Forester program, working closely with property owners,
government agencies, volunteer coordinators, and volunteers to ensure that the program
is implemented and conducted at the highest reasonable professional and technical level.
o Support and provide technical training.
o Oversee fieldwork to ensure accuracy and technical competence.
o Coordinate and interact with stakeholders as requested to support this program as
designed and to achieve defined results. 

o Identify financial sponsors to grow and sustain the program.

● Actively lead and support the development of a Community Forestry program to expand
the Citizen Forester program in scope and geographies.
o Identify and help to cultivate stakeholders and property owners with active
interests in Community Forestry who are willing and able to provide appropriate
lands and resources (e.g. financial, personnel, administration) to sponsor defined
projects.
o Coordinate and interact with property owners and managers to develop and carry
forward Community Forestry projects.
o Provide applicable, expert technical support through the design, development,
mobilization, and execution of projects.
o Attend informational meetings and presentations designed to drive programs.

Desired Experience
● strong experience in arboriculture including selection, installation, and maintenance is
required.
• Experience in landscape management, horticulture, design, community
engagement, or related fields is a plus.

● Initiating, developing and/or executing programs involving multiple organizations.

● Working with a variety of community groups and volunteers conducting community
tree projects.
● Providing positive customer service.
● Activities that demonstrate a working understanding of the benefits of and issues
relating to growing, planting, and maintaining trees in Hawaii across a variety of site
conditions, land uses, and land ownerships.
● "Ability to" work with a variety of community groups and volunteers conducting
community tree projects.
● Understanding of environmental and social issues facing various communities,
including underserved communities.
● Data and budget management.
● Grant writing or access to grant writer is a plus.
● Tree inventory software.

Qualifications
● Four year degree in arboriculture, urban forestry, forestry, or a related field with
emphasis on the aforementioned professions is desired.
● Minimum of five years of relevant work experience.
● ISA Certified Arborist or qualified and able to pass the examination within 12 months
after the contract start date.

• Comfortable or able to quickly develop skills with Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
