Provide overall educational support in the field and in the office regarding insect and disease pest problems for agricultural biosecurity of Hawaii’s flowers for export. Provide assistance in developing educational resources including printed materials, posters, brochures, videos, blogs, etc. Disseminate information and educational resource materials by organizing and conducting group and individual educational activities, including utilizing electronic technology such as blogs, web pages and social media. Conduct regular farm visits and keep records of individual farm pest management practices evaluating them for effectiveness. Gather and track data of insect shipment rejections over time. Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Agriculture or related field and 0 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for educational programs; or equivalent education/training or experience. Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in educational programs or activities providing presentations or field demonstrations as demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology. Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with agricultural biosecurity. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the floral industry. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software. Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated. Ability to travel independently to various geographical locations in a timely manner. Requirement may be fulfilled by a valid Hawai’i Driver’s License (class 3), comparable driver’s license, or other means of transportation which meets position needs. Desirable Qualifications Some coursework in entomology, plant pathology and pest management. Some experience in producing and developing videos, blogs, websites and other forms of educational resources. Some working knowledge of pest management practices and techniques and ability to apply them.
