The Next Generation Coordinator will work to promote the mission and programs of the Hawai’i Conservation alliance (HCA) and HCAF with stakeholders, educators, students, and visitors in the Hawaiian Islands. The Capacity Building Program Assistant will be involved with many aspects of the HCA’s operations, focusing particularly on current and future strategies that help build the next generation of conservation leaders in Hawai‘i. The Capacity Building Program Assistant should be a dedicated and passionate person that is not only creative, but outgoing and self-‐motivated who works well with little oversight, and in teams, is web savvy, and strongly interested in enhancing the ability for passionate students and new graduates to enter the conservation field.

Typical responsibilities include liaising with universities and high schools, coordinating and marketing of networking events both web based and live platforms, updating job bank and other web-‐based professional development resources, participating and planning various innovative outreach events and development of related print and multi-‐‐ media communication tools; and coordination of Emerging Professional and Volunteer Committees towards our annual Hawai‘i Conservation Conference & Conservation Month.

 Perform a wide range of community relations, public engagement and outreach activities of the HCA & HCAF.

 Coordinate Emerging Professional Program for HCA/HCAF.

 Coordinate media tasks including writing and placing public notice advertisements, press releases, and coordinating press events.

 Coordinate and/or conduct information presentations, public meetings, and community events, exhibit booths, etc.

 Develop and support development of related communication tools (i.e. Conservation Connections and HCA Job Bank and Website), surveys, and materials, including maintaining professional development resources for emerging professionals.

 Conduct other community outreach and public involvement activities specific to environmental conservation.

 Assist with coordinating the annual Hawai‘i Conservation Conference.

 Support Web site updates, social media sites, database management and other Internet-based applications, including designing related web-based surveys, forms and processes.

 Participate in the production of HCAF’s newsletter and other reports and organizational communication as needed.

 Provide programmatic support to Capacity Building grants.

 Performs assigned duties as needed or assigned by Manager/Supervisor

Regularly scheduled meetings with the Executive Director will be conducted to review performance results and to discuss the necessary changes.

Typical schedule will be 20 hours per week.

Employee is expected to follow all departmental and organizational wide policies and procedures and will be expected to follow HCA protocol for any issues and concerns.

Supervisor will coordinate and/or conduct departmental training, updates, and disseminate pertinent information and evaluate work performance on an ongoing basis.

Supervisor is authorized to implement disciplinary action toward employees for policy violations. For major organizational infractions, such as theft, violence in the workplace, sexual harassment, etc., Human Resources will assist in conducting formal investigations.

Minimum Qualifications:

 Possession of a Bachelors Degree in related field and 1-3 years of related professional experience in Hawai‘i or the Pacific Islands.

 Passion and commitment to advancing Hawai‘i’s natural resource conservation, management and research efforts.

 Considerable working knowledge of environmental, conservation, or sustainability issues in Hawai‘i.

 Demonstrated ability to resolve complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause and resolution of the problems in an effective, collaborative, innovative and timely manner.

 Excellent written and oral communication skills, with demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports, strategic social marketing communication, and other mediums. Requires the ability to interface with all levels of employees and with all partners.

 Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.

 Demonstrated experience in cross-cultural communication and/or community programming.

 Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office Suite, web-based tools, and other software applications to enhance productivity, participant registration, and abstract review, database management, video and various Internet-based social media tools (i.e. Facebook and Twitter etc.). Knowledge of correct punctuation and grammatical usage required.

 Ability to successfully plan and execute collaborative programs and events.

 Must have the ability to work harmoniously in a team effort emulating the “Aloha Spirit” to fellow employees and partners.

Desirable Qualifications:

 Experience working with post-secondary outreach programs.

 Demonstrated experience in conservation profession or related training & education.

 Grant Writing or Design, or Social media experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 Duties require frequent sitting, standing, walking, lifting, bending, stretching occasionally require lifting up to 30 lbs. Requires being able to adapt quickly to changing conditions. Must be able to carry and lift all outreach equipment and supplies from office to off-site locations.

 Must be physically able to access all work areas and perform all tasks and services required to fully perform the requirements of the job

 Transportation required for outreach events as program requires.

 Requires attention to detail, accuracy, good judgment, and ability to follow establish routines and procedures.

 Requires working under some pressure: meeting deadlines, handling schedules, establishing and maintaining cooperative and productive work relationships, dealing with employees, members of the community, and partners in a tactful and courteous manner in a variety of situations, and following organizational procedures.

 Availability to work additional hours or weekends, as projects demand.
