Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Undergraduate student currently enrolled at UH Manoa seeking a degree in NREM, Biology, or directly related field of study. Completion and good performance in upper level biology courses. Ability to collect field data for long hours in harsh weather conditions. Strong interest in wildlife, ecology, and conservation. Demonstrated team player, with ability to work independently. Organized, with excellent communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience collecting, managing, and analyzing data. Experience using Microsoft Excel. Access to own transportation.
 

Duties

The Research Assistant will assist in carrying out a nesting success study of the endangered, Hawaiian Stilt by conducting observational surveys of nesting Hawaiian Stilts at various wetlands throughout the island of O‘ahu. Initial duties include (but are not limited to) conducting literature reviews; identifying, collecting, and organizing nesting and habitat data; setting up and maintaining nest cameras to identify potential causes of nest failure. The Research Assistant is expected to perform other additional tasks as assigned. Additional duties may include working with project volunteers and collaborating and working with other researchers in an interdisciplinary environment.
