Become part of Hawaii’s conservation story

The Kohala Center is hiring a program assistant for our Ke Kumu ʻĀina place-based education programs. Through our Ke Kumu ʻĀina programs, we connect classroom learning and outdoor field investigations to enhance student learning across a variety of disciplines and strengthen student readiness for college, careers, and community. The assistant will support our ʻāina-based education specialist and environmental education specialist with program implementation, including lesson planning, researching field trip sites and conducting field trips, creating educational materials, and coordinating events. Strong applicants thrive on engaging with learners of all ages, are naturally detailed oriented and organized, and love outdoor learning and ‘āina.

The position requires driving 2-wheel and 4-wheel drive trucks and vans, sometimes off-road. Field activities may take place in steep and rocky terrain, with unstable substrates and in or near the ocean environment. Excellent physical condition and swimming skills are a must. This is a part-time, temporary, non-exempt, and hourly position. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred but not required.
