Become part of Hawaii’s conservation story
Bishop Museum will host a full day of the 16th Annual Mālama Hāloa Kalo Festival and Symposium on March 9, 2024!
The Festival is an opportunity to learn about different ʻohana kalo (Hawaiian kalo varieties) and how to care for them. Ka Papa Loʻi ʻO Kānewai and Ka Papa Loʻi ʻO Punaluʻuhe have hosted the Festival for the past 15 years, with each event spotlighting a specific ʻohana kalo. Bishop Museum is honored to host the Festival for the first time, and this year, we celebrate the significance of kalo Piʻialaiʻi and ʻEleʻele Mākoko.
There will be guest speakers, mele and ʻoli, food tastings, activity booths, student poster presentations, giveaways of different varieties of huli, and community conversation. Stay tuned for the full program details!
