Become part of Hawaii’s conservation story

Kahaluu Community Kui is a weekly ohana-centered kalo pounding workshop. In addition to helping improve your kalo pounding skills we also are a micro food hub specializing in 100% local sustainable foods. Our hands-on portion of this workshop is for ages 6 and up. There is lots of space for youth 5 and under and we encourage them to watch and be taste testers.

Workshops are held Thursdays from 4-8pm and most Sundays from 11am - 4pm.

The suggested donation for the workshop is $10 per person for Hawaii residence and $50 for per visitor.

Cooked kalo is $5 per pound and includes: Access to many different papa and pohaku kuiai, ozone and filtered water, and everything else you need to kui your own kalo. Kalo can be paid for online or in cash on the day you come.

Weekly Pizza Oven Potluck - just about every workshop we fire up the pizza over for after workshop pizza party. Bring toppings, make a donation for our home made dough and specialty luau sauce. Our wood fired oven is amazing and the pizzas are hard to forget.

There are two tickets: One to attend, and one to reserve kalo. You must reserve kalo 24 hours in advance. We only cook what is reserved.

THIS IS AN AI PONO EVENT! Please do not bring your processed foods, fast foods, sodas, candies, cakes, donuts, etc. Our environment encourages healthy lifestyle practices. Bring foods that pair well with poi and paiai. If you would like to bring food to share, fruitsand vegetables are great!

Please be understanding that our farm is located next to a residential community. We accomodate 10 vehicles on site. If the makai gate of the property is open, pull in SLOWLY. There are often keiki playing onsite. When parking on the street,be mindful of the neighborhood. Make sure to smile and wave at our neighbors. Cars do drive fast on Ahuimanu Road,so pleasedouble check when crossing the road, and keep an extra eye on your keiki.

This is a food and culture workshop on a farm, and we love animals but ask you to leave yours at home. Food safety is of the highest concern and so is the safety of the farm livestock. This is a subsistence farm, and we live on what we grow and make.

The best attire is comfortable and cool but not too loose. Ladies, our papa kuiai are elevated on benches, so short dressesare not recommended.

If you have any questions, call (808) 542-1326.

Mahalo a nui loa and we are so excited to make and share kalo traditions with you all,
