Become part of Hawaii’s conservation story

This free event is for all ages! Free workshops and hands-on-activities, this is an event for all ages. Master gardeners and UH plant doctors will be ready to answer all of your plant related questions. If you have samples from your garden please bring them in a container or ziplock bag. Photos are also helpful. We'll be hosting hot composting and vermicomposting workshops. (Please bring a container for garden worms.) There is free ample parking located at the Pearl City Urban Garden Center. We will have Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation teaching us how to make homemade remedies for your garden. Master gardeners from Pearl City Urban Garden Center will demonstrate hot composting techniques. Bring your keiki for children's planting activties. There will be a mini plant sale (native, Polynesian introduced, edible, succulents, drought-tolerant, medicinal) As well as coconut-based food and drink samples.

The free take home samples will consist of hot composting, vermiculture (composting with worms) and natural home remedies for pests. The hot topic talks will have the latest information on invasive pests such as the Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle, Little Fire Ant, ʻŌhiʻa Death, and Naio Thrips.These invasive species are threaten our island, gardens, and lifestyles.

We want to encourage Hawaiiʻs families to have healthy gardens. Gardening is way we can practice being more sustainable, and we can all grow and eat local. Gardening will also preserve native Hawaiian species. Learning about invasive pests will help us become more aware of them. We can all play a part in protecting Hawaii and our fragile eco-system from these invasive pests.
