Instructions for completing your NEON Internship Application Follow these steps carefully to prepare your internship application. After completing all of the steps, you will upload your saved application to NEON’s online application system. Applications are due February 10, 2017.

Step 1. Choose an Internship NEON has internships in a variety of science, technology, and engineering fields, each with specific requirements. For positions available in 2017, see the Research Internship page (http://www.neonscience.org/researchinternships). Choose the internship that best fits your interests, career goals, and experience. To be eligible for selection as a NEON Undergraduate Intern, you must: • Must have permanent authorization for US employment. Battelle will not provide any kind of visa sponsorship. • Be enrolled at a college or university for at least one semester after completion of the internship program. Students in, or transferring from, a 2-year institution are eligible.

Step 2. Tell us About Yourself Write essay responses for the following three topics and then paste them into your application (step 5). • Internship Interest: Describe how your background (coursework and experience) addresses the specific requirements listed in the internship position to which you are applying. Limit 500 words. • Academic Statement of Purpose: Prepare a statement about your career goals (in science, engineering, computing, and/or technology) and how participating in the NEON Internship program will help you meet these goals. Limit 500 words. • Broadening Participation in Science and Engineering: NEON's internship program is committed to enhancing the diversity of future science, technology, and engineering communities. Please describe how you will contribute to this mission during and after participation in the NEON Internship Program. Limit 500 words.

Step 3. Request A Letter of Recommendation Contact someone who can speak to your ability to do the work described in the internship position description. Recommendations may be from faculty members, academic counselors, previous employers, or community contacts. Download the NEON Letter of Recommendation Instructions from http://www.neonscience.org/research-internships and give the instructions to your recommender. Make sure they send their letter of recommendation directly to NEON either electronically or by mail (address is included in those instructions). Be sure to give your recommender plenty of time to complete the recommendation and send it to the NEON Project office. Letters must be received by NEON by February 10, 2017 (the same day as the application deadline). The National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) is a project sponsored by the National Science Foundation and operated under cooperative agreement by Battelle.

Step 4. Obtain Transcripts Obtain a copy of your transcripts (unofficial transcripts are accepted) to upload/submit with your application online. If you cannot submit an electronic copy with your application, you may mail your transcripts to the NEON Internship office or contact your institution to have transcripts sent directly to the NEON Internship office. We do not need official transcripts nor high school transcripts. The deadline for receiving transcripts is February 10, 2017. If you are mailing transcripts, send them to: NEON Undergraduate Internship Program 1685 38th Street, Suite 100 Boulder, CO 80301
