This position will assist the DOFAW, Maui Natural Area Reserve program with daily field operations in all reserves Maui Nui.

Interns will be provided all necessary training (Helicopter Safety, CPR & First Aid, Herbicide Safety) and gear to perform the job; but will need to be in good physical condition and the have the ability to work through varying weather conditions in challenging terrain.

It is expected that interns will learn to identify a wide range of native and non-native plants, as well as basic Hawaiian ecology, history, and culture. Our focus will be to provide each intern hands on experience in the field of natural resource management, while promoting the values of conservation through mentorship. 

 Front country reserve management invasive plant and animal control, native seed collection, outplanting, fence inspection and maintenance, fence building, nursery and general facilities maintenance.

 Backcountry reserve management intern will be required to spend two (2) weeks a month camping in remote wilderness settings for the purpose of fence construction, and invasive species removal.

 Other duties may include those that are assigned by your site manager or supervisor within the AmeriCorps guidelines.
