The position is a one year internship from August 10th, 2015 to August 20th 2016. The Environmental Education Leader will work with selected O’ahu DOE school(s) on a school need basis. Environmental Education Leader has the potential to work on school wide projects, across relevant course disciplines with multiple teachers and an array of students providing support in natural resource management, environmental sciences, and sustainability. The Environmental Education Leader has the potential to work with teachers and students on implementing school projects that focus on the environment and/or sustainability. They may also help students run or start after-school Eco/Green clubs, participate in classroom instruction, coordinate field trips and guest speakers with Kupu’s extensive network of conservation partners, and organize community service projects that strengthen community engagement and promote environmental resiliency. Environmental Education Leader may also work to organize field trips to conservation sites and to feeder schools within the ahupua’a. Environmental Education Leader may run mentorship programs that aim to build leadership skills in natural resource management while building a strong partnership between the elementary, intermediate, and high schools within a school district.

• Assist with coordinating research projects, data collection, project tracking, and preparation of reports • Assist with developing and running Eco and Green clubs at DOE schools • Assist with developing school gardens, aquaponics systems, etc. • Assist with developing and coordinating natural resources related service and learning opportunities. • Assist with teaching of natural resource management curriculum and mentorship programs Minimum Requirements: • Excellent organizational, written and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with varied audiences • Ability to manage and mentor groups of students

Other duties may include those that are assigned by your site manager or supervisor within the AmeriCorps guidelines.
