Become part of Hawaii’s conservation story

This position is for local, college aged Hawaii residents. This is a great way to gain experience and “get a foot in the door” for a potential federal job through the National Park Service. Housing and a stipend is also provided for this internship, so we encourage neighbor island residents to apply as well. I got my start as an SCA intern at Haleakala National Park, and it was the best career decision I’ve ever made! The intern will: 1. Provide visitor services (answering general park questions, doing back country permits), conduct short interpretive programs, and assist with education programs in the Summit District. 2. Rove trails at elevations of 7000 to 10,023 feet of elevation and answer questions about the park. Programs and roving focus on Native Hawaiian history and culture and the endemic, endangered resouces and ecosystems of Haleakala NP. Familiarity with Hawaiian language and culture is preferred but not required. Duty Stations: Headquarters Visitor Center is at 7000 feet. Haleakala Visitor Center is at 9741 feet. The intern will work up to three sunrise shifts per week, with start start time as early as 4:45am. The sunrise shift is at Haleakala Visitor Center. Both visitors are at high elevation and remote. Duty Schedule: Works five 8-hour days per week. Work week includes weekends. Has 2 consecutive weekdays off.
