Pacific Young Scientist Opportunity Internship Program Summer 2023
We have a paid summer internship opportunity to do monk seal work (and other projects) in Honolulu in 2023!
Deadlien to apply: February 28th, 2023
The internship is through the
Pacific Young Scientist Opportunity program (PYSO). PYSO provides opportunities for students to gain professional experience in scientific research and focuses on recruiting, advising, and mentoring students who have been historically excluded from the sciences and underrepresented in environmental research and management professions.
The internships are 10-12 weeks long during the summer and are open to eligible college students who carry at least 24 credits from an accredited college/university and who are located in Hawaii at the time of the internship. This year, of the 4 project openings, there is one project specifically focused on Hawaiian monk seals and could be a great opportunity for a student who is particularly interested in protected species field research and/or veterinary science. The selected intern will help us with our
specimen database, and it is well suited for someone with interests in data management, specimen archiving and research. There will be opportunities to also receive mentorship from NOAA scientists, practice public speaking, gain familiarity with other monk seal science/recovery activities, etc.
Please share the
announcement widely! Eligibility requirements are listed below and directions on how to apply can be found

deadline to apply is 2/28/23.
