Papahana Kuaola is currently looking for a hardworking individual seeking outdoor work opportunities to kōkua in the preservation, restoration, and management of resources within the thriving ahupuaʻa of Heʻeia on the Koʻolaupoko side of Oʻahu. While majority of the work will be at Papahana Kuaola’s main site ma uka at Waipao, workdays will also be at other partnership sites within the Heʻeia ahupuaʻa including Kākoʻo ʻŌiwi and Paepae o Heʻeia.

Work will include but not limited to:

• Native reforestation and management

• Lo’i kalo restoration

• Native plant proficiency (identification, uses [both ecologically and culturally] and propagation methods)

• Soil erosion control

• Invasive species removal

Other skills needed to create and maintain a well functioning kauhale within the ahupuaʻa will be acquired by interns when necessary. Combined within the physical work schedule, interns will also gain insight into relevant Hawaiian culture based knowledge about wahi pana (famous places), moʻolelo and oli here in Heʻeia and also the greater Hawaiʻi.
