Digital Communications Volunteer

Description of Opportunity

This position will assist Laukahi: The Hawai‘i Plant Conservation Network in communicating updates and stories to a wide variety of audiences to amplify its mission to multiple audiences. The Digital Communications Volunteer is expected to create content for both social media and/or quarterly newsletters and to possibly assist with additional responsibilities, including monitoring social media channels, editing and designing the newsletter, and reviewing overall digital communications. The volunteer should have a passion for protecting Hawai‘i’s native plants.

Tasks: The tasks listed below are summaries; the volunteer may not perform all tasks and may be asked to perform similar or related tasks not listed below.

Newsletter tasks may include:

• Writing articles to be included in the newsletters regarding Hawaiian native plants or Laukahi updates
• Editing and applying style guides
• Track, identify trends, and review engagement of newsletter

Social media responsibilities may include:

• Drafting social media posts regarding Hawaiian native plants or Laukahi updates
• Monitoring for social media posts mentioning Laukahi on Facebook and Instagram
• Informing the Laukahi Network Coordinator about comments and engagement on social media
• Track, identify trends, and review engagement of social media

Qualifications:

• If working remotely, reliable access to a computer and internet service
• Passion for protecting and conserving Hawai‘i’s native plants
• Interest, experience, or education in writing, story-telling, and/or publishing
• Proficient in using social media (Facebook and Instagram), Mail Chimp, word processing software (Microsoft Office, Google Docs)
• Regularly communicate with Laukahi Network Coordinator (via virtual meeting, phone, email, or in person)

Commitment Expected: Minimum of 2 hours per week. Minimum duration of 3 months. 

Training:

• Orientation on Laukahi: The Hawai‘i Plant Conservation Network
• Managing social media platforms for an organization
• Writing, editing, and designing newsletters for an organization
• Training on software as needed
