Hawaii Youth Conservation Corps - Team Member (JUNE - JULY, 2023)

Kupu is seeking individuals to participate in their upcoming Hawai‘i Youth Conservation Corps. If you or someone you know, is passionate about learning, improving or preserving Hawai‘i’s natural resources and cultural landscape and want to make a difference to the community, then consider applying to their upcoming summer cohort.

The Hawai‘i Youth Conservation Corps Summer Program, offers an intensive hands-on experience into the world of conservation. This upcoming summer Kupu is inviting applicants to apply on Kauaʻi, Molokaʻi, Oʻahu, Maui, and Hawaiʻi Island.

If selected, participants are partnered within a team of like-minded individuals which serve alongside one another for the duration of the 7-weeks. Each week they will get to explore and serve within a different partner site, bringing with it new adventures, challenges, learnings and opportunities for personal growth. Participants will get to learn about a variety of ecosystems, natural resource management techniques and cultural practices unique to Hawai‘i. One week they might be chest deep sifting through a loʻi, then the next they might be on the side of a mountain restoring the native watershed. 

There are two ways to participate, either as a Team Member or Team Leader. Members are typically between the ages of 17 - 22, don't necessarily need any prior environmental experience. Instead the ideal applicant is someone with a positive attitude, curious about nature, interested in learning, and has a desire to strengthen their community through service.

Participants on the islands of Hawai‘i, Maui, and Kaua‘i may have extensive camping requirements (from Monday through Friday) throughout the program. The participants may also spend up to two weeks on neighbor islands for training and service projects. Program-related neighbor island travel, accommodations, and other miscellaneous expenses will be covered by Kupu. The program does not however cover relocation expenses (ex. travel from mainland to program location).

PROGRAM DATES: 

Mandatory orientation on a weekend or weeknight in May (virtual attendance available). June 5th – July 23rd, 2023, including an end of term recognition event (exact date per island varies).

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS: 

1. Age – Applicants must be at least 17 years of age by June 5th, 2023 (due to AmeriCorps regulations). If you are 21 years of age or older, please see the HYCC Summer Team Leader application. 

2. Citizenship - Applicants must be one of the following: a US Citizen, US National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien (due to AmeriCorps regulations). 

3. Background Check- Applicants are subject to background checks 

4. Housing/Transportation - Applicants must have their own personal housing and transportation arrangements on-island for non-program time (nights and weekends). 

5.
