Kupu Community Resilience VISTA Member


 

Members will work with the University of Hawaiʻi Sustainability Office to build data collection and metric systems, increase campus and community engagement, assist with building partnerships and resources for their campus, and integrate cultural values into campus practices. Effective coordination requires working across relevant disciplines with multiple campus stakeholders and a diverse array of students. The UH Sustainability Coordinator VISTA member will coordinate sustainability efforts in cultural connections, campus/community engagement, research, and sustainability operations on campus.

 

Duties:

  • Assist with campus Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) research, reporting, and self-assessment by gathering relevant data on facilities, curriculum, community and cultural engagement in sustainability.

  • Coordinate between UH Sustainability office and campus faculty and staff to assist with natural resource curriculum, develop connections to service-learning activities, support student sustainability clubs, and other duties.

  • Support ongoing campus sustainability initiatives by coordinating campus sustainability efforts with broader system-wide sustainability initiatives, seeking additional funding and/or sponsorships for events, coordinating Earth Day activities, and other duties.

 

Participants will receive the following trainings:

  • The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) Sustainability Tracking, Assessment @ Rating System (STARS) reporting standards

  • Statewide Kupu training with the other UH-System Kupu members

  • Statewide In-Service Training with all Hawaiʻi VISTA members

  • Monthly professional development seminars such as grant writing, interpersonal communication, volunteer management, etc.

 

Program Dates:

June 2019 - June 2020 (1 year, full time)

Applicant Requirements

  • Age - members must be at least 18 years of age by April 15, 2019

  • Diploma - applicants must have an Associate’s degree (AA) or higher

  • Citizenship - applicants must be one of the following: US Citizen, US National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien

  • Housing/Transportation - applicants must have their own housing and transportation arrangements on island
