Kamehameha Schools has an opening for an intern on our natural resources management team!  The position is for a part-time 1 year term (with possibility for a second 1 year term) and is ideal for a graduate student, recent college graduate, or senior undergraduate seeking working experience and an opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills.

The position will be located on Oʻahu at our Kawaiahaʻo Plaza office.  Expected start date is mid-late January or early February.

Natural Resources Intern (Oʻahu)

Statewide ʻĀina Operations & Resources, Natural & Cultural Resources Team

Location: Oʻahu (Kawaiahaʻo Plaza)

 

Description:

Interns are responsible for adhering to the program parameters of an internship plan for the assigned department(s). Such a program plan is intended to give exposure to the intern of key processes and workflows of the assigned department(s) and to help the intern gain real-world knowledge of business operations.

  • Responsible for adhering to intern program guidelines in the department(s) assigned. Must complete a variety of tasks designed to give maximum exposure to work processes. Position expected to learn new and improve existing skillsets and apply them to practical situations at Kamehameha Schools.
  • Conduct research, benchmarking, data collection and literature review to identify and compare natural resource management strategies with industry practices and peer-programs.
  • Assist with maintaining reporting and monitoring databases, preparation of reports, and summary materials.
  • Assist with developing and implementing natural resources management strategies, processes and procedures.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining communication resources.
  • Assist with developing and coordinating natural resources related service and learning opportunities.
  • Provides some administrative support including, photocopying, scanning, filing, and coordinating meetings. Performs other job related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Enrolled in a post-secondary education program, or have graduated within the previous year.
  • Proficient in the use of the PC/Mac and standard office software.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possess or pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Hawaiian Studies, Ecology, Botany, Biology, Zoology, Natural Resources and Environmental Management, Forestry, Planning, Business or a directly related field.
  • Familiarity with natural and cultural resources, landscapes, and stewardship efforts in Hawaii.
  • Familiarity with Hawaiian geography, cultural practices and the Hawaiian language.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with varied audiences.
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS.
