Are you interested in a position in science education? Please consider applying to join the science education team in the Curriculum Research & Development Group (CRDG) in the College of Education at UH Manoa. 
 
This position would work with the CRDG science team to conduct science education research, facilitate teacher professional development workshops in science, and develop science curriculum—in addition to a lot of other cool projects!
 
Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Under the direction of CRDG science-education faculty members, plan and conduct professional development, curriculum development, and research in science education grades preK–20.
  2. Collect and analyze science education research and evaluation data.
  3. Disseminate curricula, programs, and research findings through presentations, workshops, and outreach events.
  4. Serve as a project manager, including tracking the budget and the activities and progress of internally-funded and extramural projects.
  5. Continuously inform the Director and principal investigators on the progress of internally-funded and extramural projects. Prepare progress reports as annually required by funding agencies.
  6. Supervise and train undergraduate and graduate student assistants as needed.
  7. Participate in college/department activities such as CRDG research & development meetings, department section meetings, and serving on college committees.
  8. Assist in the preparation of grant applications, literature reviews, reports, and publications.
  9. Communicate and coordinate with program participants, collaborating academic departments and personnel, and external community groups.
  10. Procure, organize, and maintain a wide variety of science supplies necessary for curriculum and professional development projects.
  11. Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Science, Education, or related fields and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for science and/or science education; or equivalent education/training or experience.
  2. Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the areas of science education as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
  3. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with science education.
  4. Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
  5. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  8. For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
  9. Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  10. Ability to make timely site visits on O‘ahu.
  11. Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, and to travel to neighbor islands as needed.
  12. Experience in developing and designing inquiry-based science curriculum.
Desirable Qualifications
  1. Master’s degree in education, science, or related degree.
  2. Functional knowledge and understanding of local and national science education trends and issues, including science standards.
  3. Teaching experience at the preK–12, undergraduate, or graduate level.
  4. Evidence of continuous professional development.
  5. Possession of a valid driver’s license.
