Kapiolani Community College
Regular, Full-Time, Limited Term (up through September 30, 2019), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Kapiolani Community College (KCC), Title III: Kauhale Ke Kuleana (the Responsibility of the While Village) Strengthening Kapiolani’s Campus and Culture for Student Success Program, located in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY: $2,314/Mon.
DUTIES: Works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to implement an ¿aina-based curriculum in the Mala Maunuunu garden where students cultivate Native Hawaiian plants of nutritional and medicinal value in Hawaiian culture. Contributes to the design and establishment of a Native Hawaiian Student Success model. Designs and implements culturally-relevant learning activities, including a community work day program to care for the Mala Maunuunu garden. Supports and engages faculty and students in ‘aina-based educational and community research projects.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university. EXPERIENCE: At least six (6) months of experience working with grants. Experience working with Native Hawaiian students. Documented evidence of experiences and cultural practice that reflects an understanding of the indigenous people of Hawai‘i. ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Demonstrates a grounding in core Native Hawaiian cultural principles, practices, and values that reflect aloha ‘aina, leadership as kuleana to serve, kupuna knowledge, appreciation, and respect for the history and value of genealogy, and a proven concern for the greater good of the Hawaiian community. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of Title III federal laws, rules, and regulations. Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve conflicts through core cultural Native Hawaiian values, creative reasoning, and logic. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbal communication, and through the preparation of reports and other materials. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Native Hawaiian community, internal and external organizations, groups, workforce partners, team members and individuals. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and word processing software. POLICY AND/OR REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS: As a condition of employment, employee will be subject to all applicable RCUH policies and procedures and, as applicable, subject to University of Hawai‘i's and/or business entity's policies and procedures. Violation of RCUH's, UH's, or business entity's policies and/or procedures or applicable State or Federal laws and/or regulations may lead to disciplinary action (including, but not limited to possible termination of employment, personal fines, civil and/or criminal penalties, etc.).
SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working with grants at the post-secondary level.
