Regular, Part-Time to Full-Time (50% to 100% FTE, pending availability of funds), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST), Hawai‘i Institute of Geophysics and Planetology (HIGP), located in Honolulu, Hawai‘i.  Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. 

MONTHLY SALARY:  Salary commensurate with qualifications. 

DUTIES:  Supports the professional development of undergraduates, graduate students, postdoctoral scientists and faculty within the ‘Ike Wai project.  Develops and implements professional development workshops. Collaborates with external, professional facilitators for specific workshops. Develops evaluation surveys. Prepares reports based on the results of the professional development workshops and conducts workshop evaluations. Collaborates with graduate students and postdoctoral researchers to develop their Individual Development Plans, outlining research and other professional development objectives. Manages a mentoring cascade, including establishing and monitoring mentor-mentee pairs.  Interacts with students, postdoctoral researchers and faculty across disciplines to actively engage them in professional development training.  Participates in a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with indigenous communities in Hawai‘i and the Pacific on issues surrounding water sustainability. Works with diverse student and community populations that reflect the University of Hawai‘i’s (UH) Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander-serving context. 

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING:  PhD from an accredited college or university.  (Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of relevant work experience may substitute for a PhD).  EXPERIENCE:  At least two (2) years relevant experience in a higher education environment.  ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS:  Knowledge of issues faced by members of underrepresented groups in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields. Knowledge of research-based pedagogy techniques, including active learning and assessment. Knowledge of best practices in mentoring.  Knowledge of Hawaiian and/or local culture.  Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, see assigned tasks to completion, and meet deadlines. Ability to work successfully and positively as part of a team. Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, administration, faculty and staff representing a wide range of ethnicities in the project. Excellent oral and written communication skills.  PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Able to lift and carry up to thirty (30) pounds unassisted. POLICY AND/OR REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:  As a condition of employment, employee will be subject to all applicable RCUH policies and procedures and, as applicable, subject to University of Hawai‘i's and/or business entity's policies and procedures.  Violation of RCUH's, UH's, or business entity's policies and/or procedures or applicable State or Federal laws and/or regulations may lead to disciplinary action (including, but not limited to possible termination of employment, personal fines, civil and/or criminal penalties, etc.). 

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:  Experience teaching science within the UH system.  Experience related to graduate student and postdoctoral professional development.  Publication record in science education.
