Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU), Hawai‘i Association of Watershed Partnerships (HAWP), located in Honolulu, Hawai‘i.  Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. 

MONTHLY SALARY:  Salary commensurate with qualifications. 

DUTIES:  Develops multi-year and annual plans to support HAWP priorities. Writes grant proposals to public and private agencies.  Ensures proper accounting and timely completion of grant objectives, and prepares progress and final reports for watershed partnerships. Develops, implements, and maintains projects and outreach programs for watershed partnerships, working cooperatively in coordination with other statewide conservation programs.  Serves as HAWP main public point of contact for watershed protection issues and works closely with the media, other agencies, organizations, private foundations, and the general public to engender widespread support for watershed initiatives.  Maintains regular, consistent media exposure for important watershed management issues including state and local legislation, HAWP priority invasive species issues, and land and water management initiatives.  Prepares multimedia presentations and press releases. Coordinates HAWP meeting logistics and facilitates multi-agency/Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) involvement and collaboration on HAWP projects and initiatives. 

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING:  Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university.  EXPERIENCE:  Three to five (3-5) years of experience in a leadership, public relations, coordinator, or similar type of position, including project management and environmental outreach. Experience in preparing presentation materials, writing and tracking grants. Experience and/or familiarity working with control of invasive species and other watershed management activities.  ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS:  Knowledge of media relations including preparation of media campaigns and press releases for print and electronic media to create and maintain effective public/community relations.  Must be able to write clear, concise reports. Must have excellent communication and program management skills to guide and implement an education program.  Ability to work effectively with media personnel regarding complex and potentially sensitive issues.  Ability to work effectively in a complex organizational structure, requiring sound decisions regarding priorities and workload.  Must possess a valid driver’s license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver’s insurance equivalent to Hawai‘i’s No-Fault Driver’s Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment.  Post Offer/Employment Condition:  Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check. Must be able to complete basic helicopter safety course within twelve (12) months from date of hire.   PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Ability to lift and carry up to thirty (30) pounds unassisted.  Ability to hike up to 5 miles and camp in the field. POLICY AND/OR REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:  As a condition of employment, employee will be subject to all applicable RCUH policies and procedures and, as applicable, subject to University of Hawai‘i's and/or business entity's policies and procedures.  Violation of RCUH's, UH's, or business entity's policies and/or procedures or applicable State or Federal laws and/or regulations may lead to disciplinary action (including, but not limited to possible termination of employment, personal fines, civil and/or criminal penalties, etc.). 

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:  Education or experience in journalism, marketing, or related field.  Knowledge of Hawaiian biota and threats from alien plant and animal invasions in Hawai‘i.  Computer skills in presentation software (e.g. PowerPoint), geographic information systems (GIS), databases, and desktop publishing. Experience preparing social media posts for education and/or outreach.
