Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the College of Tropical Agriculture & Human Resources (CTAHR), GoFarm Hawai‘i, located at the University of Hawai‘i Maui College (UHMC), Kahului, Hawai‘i.  Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. 

MINIMUM HOURLY RATE:  $13.68/Hr. 

DUTIES:  Assists Co-Program Director with all aspects of GoFarm work:  Works closely with each student cohort group, helps coordinate classroom activities, schedules guest speakers, coaches GoFarm participants with self-study materials, provides in-field safety and equipment demonstrations, oversees and guides student in-field activities (clearing fields, seeding, weeding, growing, harvesting, and produce packaging), and guides students through marketing activities such as running a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) or participating in a farmers' market. Maintains farm site (field sanitation, irrigation system, field security, [i.e. keep out animals]), schedules (or performs) routine equipment maintenance and repairs, and works with program administrative staff to make program purchases. 

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING:  Associate’s Degree from an accredited community college in Agriculture, Plant Biology and Tropical Agriculture, or related field.  (At least five (5) years of successful farming and produce marketing in Hawai‘i may substitute for Associate’s Degree). EXPERIENCE:  At least two (2) years of experience in one (1) or more of the following positions:  Farmer and/or farm manager; agricultural technician; teaching assistant in agriculture, botany, or related field; greenhouse technician; landscape technician; or experience coordinating an agricultural research or agricultural education program.  ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS:  Strong knowledge of raw agriculture commodities, specifically vegetable and orchard crops grown in Hawai‘i. Knowledge of small-scale agriculture: how to optimize field conditions, soil conditions, and crop yield; farm safety; farm equipment maintenance; and irrigation systems installation, maintenance, and repair. Knowledge of requirements for various State and Federal agricultural certifications: organic industry requirements; pesticide handler/applicator requirements; food safety handling requirements; and others. Knowledge of agribusinesses in Hawai‘i; agribusiness opportunities, and value-added agricultural products. Proficient computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, internet, and email.  Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Must possess a valid driver’s license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver’s insurance equivalent to Hawai‘i’s No-Fault Driver’s Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must complete the online Hazard Communication training immediately after hire or no later than employee’s initial exposure to hazardous chemicals.  PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted. Ability to work in the sun for up to four (4) hours/day. POLICY AND/OR REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:  As a condition of employment, employee will be subject to all applicable RCUH policies and procedures and, as applicable, subject to University of Hawai‘i's and/or business entity's policies and procedures.  Violation of RCUH's, UH's, or business entity's policies and/or procedures or applicable State or Federal laws and/or regulations may lead to disciplinary action (including, but not limited to possible termination of employment, personal fines, civil and/or criminal penalties, etc.). 

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Agriculture, Business, or related field. Food safety certifications.
