Kupu is a 501c3 nonprofit organization which empowers youth to serve their communities through character building, service learning, and environmental stewardship. Kupu trains and equips young adults in Hawaii and throughout the Pacific Rim with work skills, life skills, and knowledge to help them become successful as individuals and as part of the greater community. Kupu is staffed by people with a heart to better Hawaii while working as a team with a purpose of doing what is pono and doing what is best for Hawaii and its people. Position Duties
The Development Manager position is a full-time position that provides essential support to the development office and includes, but is not limited to, the following duties:
- Provide logistical and operational support for Kupu fundraising efforts
- Support cultivation and solicitation efforts of annual and major gifts from various donor populations and special constituencies
- Provide support for fundraising plans, including Kupu’s Capital Campaign
- Assist in the development of internal fundraising policies and procedures
- Process donor gifts and acknowledgements including payment processing, data entry, follow up phone calls, correspondence, mailings, etc.
- Maintain and service all fundraising files, ensuring donor lists are complete and accurate
- Process development mailings and solicitations
- Process and follow-up RSVP’s for development events
- Provide monthly reports to Director of Development
- Track monthly grant reporting deadlines as needed
- Assist with donor reports and follow up
- Research funding opportunities including donations and grant opportunities
- Research additional online fundraising opportunities including Google Ad grants, Amazon Smile, etc.
- Ensure that Kupu’s online presence is accurate and updated (Guidestar, Charity Watch, etc.)
- Coordinate development activities and special events
- Assist with meetings, speaking engagements, community outreach opportunities and special events
- Develop content for donor communications (print, email, website and online fundraising platform)
- Other duties as needed
Development Manager Requirements
The Development Manager must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field
- 5-years nonprofit experience, preferably in development operations
- Team player with a professional attitude and able to serve as a good role model of Kupu both internally and outside the organization
- Donor management experience preferably with experience in database migration
- Effective communicator including strong writing and phone skills with the ability to research and write grants.
- Understanding of donor confidentiality policies and internal procedures
- Experience with developing long-term growth strategies
- Ability to conduct basic research on corporate funding opportunities
- Coordination and planning experience of both small and large fundraising events and activities
- Experience with charitable state registrations for out of state solicitations
- Experience with online fundraising platforms and website updating preferred
- Highly organized and thorough with a positive and creative attitude
- High Microsoft Office skill level
