Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU), located in Honolulu, Hawai‘i with the support and permission of Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) and PCSU supervisors. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY: $4,000/Mon.
DUTIES: The Access and Acquisitions Program is tasked with enhancing opportunities for conservation, public hunting, and recreation through acquisition and improved access to appropriate public and private lands. Stakeholders will be involved to create a long-term conservation vision and strategy that protects endangered species habitats, native ecosystems, and watersheds. Provides professional technical expertise to the Program Manager on matters pertinent to the management of public hunting areas, Game Management Areas, and other areas under the jurisdiction or purview of DOFAW including: planning; contract administration; public review processes; research acquisition of lands or interests in land; grant management; development of access agreements with public and private landowners; administration; preparation of correspondence and reports; public outreach; some field work on DOFAW and other lands.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university. EXPERIENCE: At least four (4) years of experience in a natural resource related field. ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Working knowledge of the principles of game management, land use, ecology, and conservation in Hawai‘i. Basic understanding of rules and policies pertinent to personnel safety, fiscal, and operational matters. Sensitivity to local culture. Knowledge of how to develop legal access and acquisition agreements. Excellent organizational, leadership, and communications skills. Basic computer skills in word processing and spreadsheets. Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check. Must possess the American Red Cross Certification in First Aid/CPR (or be able to obtain and maintain the certificate following the training provided within three (3) months from date of hire) and maintain throughout duration of employment. PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to work outdoors on extremely rough terrain, and under adverse weather conditions. Able to lift and carry at least fifty (50) pounds unassisted. Able camp in remote unimproved areas for up to five (5) days at a time. SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated experience working with management plans and managing grants. Coursework in Forestry, Wildlife Management, Natural Resources Management, and Planning from an accredited college or university.
