Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU), Native Ecosystem Protection and Management (NEPM) Program, located in Lihue, Kauai. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
DUTIES: Identifies research needs for rare plant species and facilitates appropriate and approved research on Hawai‘i’s native flora. Publishes and/or disseminates studies and reports on the distribution, size, and management of native Hawaiian plants, with a focus on endangered and rare species. Coordinates and participates in field work throughout the State of Hawai‘i for the purpose of rare plant and native species monitoring, research, reintroduction, and enhancement. Responsible for identifying and detecting native and biota during surveys and disseminating the results of these studies to inform the conservation of these species and locations. Develops, reviews, and coordinates plans for the protection, recovery, management, and enhancement of rare, threatened, and endangered native plant species and their habitats areas across Hawai‘i. Responsible for compiling processing biological and geospatial field data related to native plant management and restoration. Produces annual reports to present data for internal and external sources.
