The incumbent serves as a senior biologist working for the Pacific Islands Fish and Wildlife Office, with an official duty station on the island of Saipan in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. You will be responsible for the detection, prevention, eradication, interdiction, management, and control of the invasive brown tree snake in the Northern Mariana Islands. This position is a term position not-to-exceed 13 months, but may be non-competitively extended to last up to four years without further announcement.

ANNUAL SALARY:
GS-11, Step 1 $59,246 - Step 10 $77,019
GS-12, Step 1 $71,012 - Step 10 $92,316
Employees new to the Federal Government are placed in step 1.
If selected at the GS-11 grade level, you will perform the same kind of duties as described above, but under closer supervision and training will be provided for progression towards the full performance level.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
To qualify for the GS-0401 series as a Biologist you must meet one of the following scenarios:
A. You must have a degree in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; or
B. You must have a combination of education and experience -- Courses equivalent to a major, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that you possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation, and is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field. In addition to courses in the major and related fields, a typical college degree would have included courses that involved analysis, writing, critical thinking, research, etc. These courses would have provided an applicant with skills and abilities sufficient to perform progressively more responsible work in the occupation. Therefore, creditable experience should have demonstrated similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the work of the occupation.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
In addition to meeting the basic qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, you must meet either "A", "B", or "C" below:
A. Completion of 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a degree directly related to the work of this position; or
B. Completion of one year, full-time specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal Government. This experience can be gained inside or outside the government, as long as it is equivalent. Specialized experience is defined as: Developing and implementing monitoring, detection or eradication plans for invasive species.
C. Completion of an equivalent combination of "A" and "B" above, when combined total at least 100% of the qualifications required.
To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, you must meet "A" below:
A. Completion of one year, full-time specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Government. This experience can be gained inside or outside the government, as long as it is equivalent. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) Developing and implementing monitoring, detection or eradication plans for invasive species and 2) Coordinating the eradication and control of invasive species with outside interests.
