Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Pacific Biosciences Research Center (PBRC), Center for Conservation Research & Training (CCRT) and the Hawaii Conservation Alliance (HCA), located on the Island of Oahu.  Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. 

MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY:  $4,067/Mon. 

DUTIES:  Oversees and leads all the activities of the Hawaii Conservation Alliance (HCA).  Plays essential role in working to promote effective long-term management of Hawaii’s native ecosystem and serves as the liaison between scientists, educators, agencies, policy/decision-makers, and the general public.  Facilitates and provides leadership among HCA stakeholders and partners to promote effective long-term management of Hawaii’s native ecosystems.  Supervises and coordinates the Annual Hawaii Conservation Conference (HCC).  Plans, develops, implements, and coordinates collaborative research, training and outreach among land managers, scientists, educators, and the general public. 

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING:  Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Biological Sciences, Public Administration, or a related field. EXPERIENCE:  Three to five (3-5) years of experience in project development, policy, planning and management of conservation issues.  At least one (1) year of professional experience and/or successful track record in grant writing and grants management.  Must have prior experience supervising paid staff and attendance in supervisory training programs.  ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Considerable working knowledge and understanding of current environmental/conservation issues.  Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of project development, policy, planning, and management of environmental/conservation issues(s). Ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning/logic to accurately determine the cause of the problem(s) and address resolution of the problems(s) in an effective, innovative and timely manner.  Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information/ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members and individuals.  Proficient with the operation of a personal computer, specifically skilled at using Word, Excel, E-mail, Database(s), etc.  Ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and employee relations.  Demonstrated accomplishment and expertise in developing and overseeing the financial, governance, and programmatic capacity of an organization.  Demonstrated ability to advocate on behalf of an organization.  PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Able to lift and carry at least twenty to thirty (20-30) pounds unassisted.  POLICY AND/OR REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:  As a condition of employment, employee will be subject to all applicable RCUH policies and procedures and, as applicable, subject to University of Hawaii's and/or business entity's policies and procedures.  Violation of RCUH's, UH's, or business entity's policies and/or procedures or applicable State or Federal laws and/or regulations may lead to disciplinary action (including, but not limited to possible termination of employment, personal fines, civil and/or criminal penalties, etc.). 

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:  Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Biological Sciences, Public Administration, Nonprofit Administration/Management, or a related field.  Demonstrated working knowledge and experience in successfully submitting and securing grant funding.    Working knowledge of Web 2.0 technologies.  Working knowledge and understanding of strategic communications and marketing, including social media.  Demonstrated success in developing nonprofit and/or profit organizations/businesses and boards of directors.  Working knowledge of key conservation issues specific to Hawaii, including Hawaiian socio-cultural and ecological history.  Experienced in broadening, expanding, and creating successful communities within an organization/business.
