Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit.  Regular, Full Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU), Ko‘olau Mountains Watershed Partnership (KMWP), University of Hawaii, located in Pearl City, Oahu, Hawaii.  Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MONTHLY SALARY RANGE:  $2,189-$3,750/Mon. 

DUTIES:  Responsible for the development, maintenance and use of spatial and reference data for implementation of the Ko‘olau Mountains Watershed Partnership management plan.  Maintains Microsoft Access database, uploads Global Positioning System (GPS) data, assists in data analysis, and final reports.  Inputs and summarizes field data for incorporation into Geographic Information System (GIS).  Uses GIS to produce map products to evaluate and facilitate fieldwork. Provides computer technical support for field crew.  May participate in mechanical and chemical removal of invasive alien plant species in natural areas. 

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING:  Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Geography, Computer Science, Natural Sciences or related field.  EXPERIENCE:  One to three (1-3) years of experience with geographic information system and database applications.  Demonstrated ability to summarize, analyze, and develop written reports on results of research.  Experience working with natural resource management in Hawaii or elsewhere.  ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS:  Knowledge of forest ecology and threats from alien plant and animal invasions.  Good working knowledge of Microsoft Access, Trimble/Garmin GPS systems and ArcGIS software.  Good organizational, communication and computer skills.  Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.  Ability to read maps and aerial photographs.  Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain throughout the duration of employment.  Post Offer/Employment Condition:  Must possess the American Red Cross Certification in First Aid/CPR (or be able to obtain and maintain the certificate following the training provided within three (3) months from date of hire and maintain throughout duration of employment).  PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Ability to hike and camp in remote areas and steep rugged terrain under inclement weather conditions, for up to three (3) nights. POLICY AND/OR REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:  As a condition of employment, employee will be subject to all applicable RCUH policies and procedures and, as applicable, subject to University of Hawaii's and/or business entity's policies and procedures.  Violation of RCUH's, UH's, or business entity's policies and/or procedures or applicable State or Federal laws and/or regulations may lead to disciplinary action (including, but not limited to possible termination of employment, personal fines, civil and/or criminal penalties, etc.).  

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:  Knowledge of spatial analysis, GIS programming, graphic representation, computer modeling, and use of relational databases. Ability to update software and provide office Information Technology (IT) support. Botanical skills and invasive species management experience in Hawaii.  Strong skills in scientific writing and have experience with statistical analysis. Knowledge of SQL Server a plus.
