The San Diego Zoo’s Institute for Conservation Research is seeking a full-time Administrative Assistant. This position will provide assistance and support for all projects within the Hawaii Endangered Bird Conservation Program. Duties will include processing of purchasing card reports, funds requests, permit applications, and vendor selection and billing documents. Other tasks include acquisition of quotes, purchasing supplies and equipment, tracking and making payments for fees, stipends, registrations, and service agreements, and other tasks as assigned.
The successful candidate will be required to work on multiple assignments simultaneously and follow-up on the completion of assignments in a timely manner. Must have excellent organizational, customer service, and grammar and typing skills. Must be detail-oriented, competent in composing routine correspondence, have a strong ability to multi-task, able to accomplish tasks in an expedited manner, and have excellent knowledge and proficiency of Windows computer systems and applications such as Word, Excel, and Acrobat. Previous administrative experience, graphic design abilities, as well as knowledge of scientific and biological terminology to assist with literature searches would be helpful.
The Administrative Assistant will report to the Conservation Program Manager and will be based at the Keauhou Bird Conservation Center in Volcano, Hawaii. Applicant will assist and support activities for all five different projects of the Hawaii Endangered Bird Conservation Program (Keauhou and Maui Bird Conservation Centers, ‘Alalā Reintroduction, Aga Rear-and-Release, and Akikiki and Akekee Egg Collection).
Most importantly, the applicant must be able to work well with others, communicate effectively (oral and written), coordinate and follow-up with administrative staff in San Diego, and be a positive, team-oriented member of the Hawaii Endangered Bird Conservation Program.
