Duties and Responsibilities
- Under the direction of the PI, assist in the development of print and electronic extension materials to inform key stakeholder groups about the progress in Rapid Ohia Death project.
- Assist with disseminating information on Rapid Ohia Death to community groups and stakeholders through educational events such as workshops, field days, and forest visits, and via talks at community meetings and extension publications.
- Visit affected landowners, take samples, and document extent of ongoing infestation. Develop and update maps for public information.
- Assist UH extension forester and Hawaii Forest Industry Association in conducting assessment of ohia wood products industry, focusing on tracking of flow of ohia wood products.
- Work with UH extension forester and nursery extension agent to conduct assessment of nursery industry’s use of soil in potting mixes.
- In conjunction with affected agencies (e.g. DOFAW, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park), assist in the development & application of sanitation protocols for scientists, arborists, loggers, hikers & others who access forests where the fungus occurs.
- Other duties as assigned
