Pono Pacific Land Management, LLC was founded with a vision of helping Hawai‘i’s conservation agencies and landowners. Since 2000, we have been providing specialized services to a wide variety of clients in almost every ecosystem in Hawaiʻi, from mountain ridgelines and forests to coastal areas and near-shore reef systems. Our current projects primarily include: • Native habitat restoration and landscape maintenance • Invasive species eradication • Ungulate-proof fence construction • Predator and ungulate control • Trail construction & maintenance We are currently seeking applicants for the Conservation Field Crew Member position. The ideal candidate will exhibit the values that steer our organization: character, humility, ʻohana (family/community-mindedness), service, excellence, and nobility. A Conservation Field Crew Member will act in the best interest of the company, act in the best interest of other employees, and act in a fair, safe, effective, and legal manner. The Conservation Field Crew Member will carry out general conservation field work under close supervision by a Crew Leader and/or Project Manager. This position requires approximately 30-40 hours per week (largely dependent on weather). Compensation is based on an hourly rate which is dependent upon experience and project. Experience is highly preferred in the following areas: • Invasive species removal to protect/enhance native species populations • Landscape maintenance, including herbicide/pesticide application • Intense hiking, hunting, and/or trapping • Ungulate-proof fence construction • Wildlife monitoring, utilizing GPS devices, and recording field data • Maintenance of trails • Other general field work using hand and power tools Specific Position Goals/Expectations: • Hold an interest in preserving Hawaiʻi’s native plants, animals, and ecosystems • Possess a positive attitude and willingness to learn • Give 100% effort each day • Be responsible and follow directions while working in small groups or independently • Maintain attendance and punctuality • Possess a reliable vehicle or other reliable form of transportation • Be experienced, willing, and able to perform physically challenging work in harsh conditions for 8 hours a day • Be familiar and comfortable operating power tools including chainsaws, weed trimmers, etc. • Be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds • Be able to pass a background check and/or gain military base access clearance • Be able to camp in remote areas for multiple days at a time and/or travel occasionally • Openly communicate observations/questions to fellow Crew Members, Crew Leader, and/or Project Manager Although our work can be demanding, it is both very unique and very rewarding.
