Become part of Hawaii’s conservation story
This is an AmeriCorps VISTA position (to learn more about AmeriCorps VISTA, visit http://www.nationalservice.gov/programs/americorps/americorps-vista). This is a full-time position that may include the following duties:
- Researching and familiarizing with the International Union of Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources and the World Conservation Congress. The VISTA will familiarize themselves with the goals and mission of the World Conservation Congress being held in Honolulu, Hawai'i in September 2016 and learn about the “youth track” of the WCC being chaired by Kupu.
- Attending Youth Engagement Committee meetings and define opportunities for youth engagement prior to, during, and post congress. The VISTA will work with native communities in Hawai'i and other US territories in the Pacific, possibly including American Samoa, Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands to coordinate opportunities which will engage, educate and inspire youth to care for and steward our island’s natural resources especially in the light of climate change.
- Assisting with the creation of a legacy project that perpetuates the Youth Engagement goals and initiatives set at the 2016 WCC. This legacy project may include 1) planning and coordinating an IUCN 2017 Youth Congress in Honolulu and 2) developing opportunities to connect youth from Hawai'i and other US territories in the Pacific.
